Our mission
is to accurately represent and effectively involve the teens of
Jeffersonville in civic engagement and government issues. We
will give teens the opportunity to voice and solve community
issues as they relate to teens, opportunities to work in the
community, and empower them to be leaders as young people.
Without the youth, there can be no future!
What is
it:
Municipal youth councils (MYC) demonstrate efforts by elected
officials to civically engage their youngest citizens. MYC's are
great opportunities to give youth a voice and a chance to
identify and solve community issues from a youth perceptive. At
the same time, MYC's are resources for elected officials to
receive advice on issues they face, especially those decisions
that directly affect young people.
Objectives:
Through civic engagement, young people gain work experience,
acquire new skills, learn responsibility and accountability,
develop a greater sense of confidence, empowerment, and
membership and forge meaningful connections with other youth and
adults. Objectives are:
-
To do
volunteer work in the community
-
To
participate in city events
-
To
coordinate and come up with our own events or programs
-
To take
government fieldtrips to learn procedures and issues
happening
-
To
collaborate with other organizations to get things done
and/or hold events
