The attorneys under contract with the city provide legal advice
and representation to city officials, relative to governmental
operations. Such advice includes, but is not limited to:

The enforcement of city ordinances.

Advising city officials relative to U.S. and Indiana codes
and city ordinances.

Representing the city in court proceedings and
administrative hearings before U.S. and state courts and
agencies.
The attorneys under contract with the city DO NOT, as part of
their contracts with the city:

Prosecute criminal cases. The Clark County Prosecutor’s

Represent indigent criminal clients. The Clark County Public
Defender’s Office can be reached at (812) 285-6292. Please
note that public defenders only accept cases that have been
assigned to them by the court in which a person is charged
with a crime.

Represent people seeking free or low-cost representation in
civil suits. Local resources of this nature include the
Clark County Bar Association (812-288-1250), Indiana Legal
Services – New Albany (812-945-4123) and Legal Volunteers,
District 14 (812-949-2292).
Please note that all of the attorneys under contract with the
city maintain private practices, which are separate from their
contractual obligations to the City of Jeffersonville. In that
context, they provide legal services to private clients on a
for-fee basis and can be reached at their private offices in
relation to such work
