Municipal clerk-treasurers are governed by Indiana Code 36-4-10.

Clerk-Treasurer's serve as city government's financial manager and record keeper, maintaining official public records for nearly every department and board within city government.

A clerk-treasurer is elected by popular vote every four years.

On Jan. 1, 2012, the structure of municipal government in Jeffersonville will become that of a second class city. The duties of the clerk-treasurer will be divided between an elected clerk and a controller who is appointed by the mayor.
